TAPES FOUND IN THE WORDSHIP

Hopscotch is pleased to welcome archivist Alexis Bhagat from Albany, New York to present his ongoing project surveying the sound collections of the prominent critic of the avant-garde, Richard Kostelanetz.

In a cement block factory building in Ridgewood, NY sits Wordship II, the home and studio of the artist-writer Richard Kostelanetz. In addition to 25,000 + books and 3000 + records, there are several thousand cassette tapes. A critic and publisher of avant-garde art, Richard’s archive comprises a uniquely important collection of 20th century poetry, text-sound, and sound art. Bhagat will present the “Audio Art on Cassette” collection of 240 cassettes and discuss the heritage of audio art publication.
